I want to point your attention to the meeting SummerSolstice 2012, to be held in the nice town of Arcidosso, on the Amiata mountain in the south of Tuscany (Italy), in the period 26-29 June 2012
The site where you can find more information is
The meeting concerns complex systems, in a broad sense: there will be examples of application to physics, biology, psychology, sociology, computer science and so on.
It will follow the series of the Summer Solstice conferences
traditionally focused on discrete systems (say, cellular automata and beyond), but this year it will also include the meeting Biophys 12 of the INFN TO61 experiment
about physics and biology, and a part will be devoted to the theme of self-awareness in autonomic system, a subject related to the awareness call of the European Union
and in particular to the RECOGNITION project
So, the general plan is the following:
Monday 25 afternoon: venue, welcome, registration
Tuesday 26: sociology/psychology/computers/robotics... (more related to the Awareness/Recognition themes)
Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 afternoon: physics, mathematics, discrete systems
Thursday 28 afternoon and Friday 29 morning: biology-biophysics (more related to the TO61 themes)
It does not mean that the the sections are separated, only that we shall try to put together talks with similar subjects.
The meeting has no funding up to now (we have a sponsorship from the Municipality of Arcidosso that furnishes the castle for the meeting), and we hope to be able to find agreements with the hotels in Arcidosso for reduced prices. For this reason (and for ecological ones) we shall follow the philosophy of no-fees no-frills, so do not expect gadgets, etc.. Our only gift is Arcidosso itself, which is a really nice place (and rather cheap) that you can also exploit for vacation.
Please notice that the space in the castle is limited to up to 50 people, and priority will be given to the first ones.
More news about accommodation, travel, etc. will be communicated through the web site http://summersolstice2012.complexworld.net/.
If you are interested, write an email to me (email@example.com) putting SUMMERSOLTICE2012 in the subject, and including the title and a small abstract of your planned contribution. I would like to have most contributions from young people, and a few review talks from senior ones, so please signal it in your email. There is no sharp deadline, but there is a first coming/first served principle.
Please notice that the the XVII congress of statistical physics in Parma
will probably happen the week before, so you can plan a two-weeks trip in Italy.
